Details of Artist’s Studio // Witch’s Altar Displayed at The Winter Cabaret (10th December 2024)
This piece takes influence from my newly discovered witch practice, it aims to explore how contemporary artists and contemporary witches have a lot in common. After reading Why Witchcraft is Making a Comeback in Art by Izabella Scott, I was inspired to create a piece that linked the two.
My previous works focused more on the persecution of witches, but with this work i wanted to acknowledge the contemporary practices of both artists and witches, and how some people have reclaimed witchcraft as something powerful and sacred. I was also influenced by the work of Linda Stupart , which explores the interconnectivity of witchcraft and contemporary art. The piece brought together the different projects I have been working on with the research I have conducted regarding witchcraft.
