Hold Your Tongue (Sculpture)

Hold Your Tongue (Sculpture)

Medium: air dry clay, acrylic paint, metal screw and super glue

This sculpture is a continuation of my work surrounding the phrase ‘hold your tongue.’ When reading about the scold’s bridle it described how if a woman attempted to speak while wearing it her tongue could be cut in half. This gave me the idea of creating a sculpture that showed the literal brutality behind the common phrase. I wanted the tongue to look realistic and use the screw to ‘hold the tongue’ down onto the surface of the table.
