The other objects used in this piece were all taken from my studio space and my bedroom. A few objects are used as part of my magic practice, such as the different coloured candles, the bay leaves and the crystals. The paint brushes and cutting mat were taken from my studio space and were used to create several of the pieces included in ARTIST’S STUDIO//WITCH”S ALTAR. The playing cards link to during the early modern period playing cards were sometimes used as evidence of a witch’s attempt at divination.
The curation of this piece is inspired by the Victor Wynd Museum of Curiosities and Unnatural History. I adored how claustrophobic and cluttered the museum felt and wanted to try to recreate that uncomfortable energy within this piece. To expand on this in future I want to make something more immersive to enhance that claustrophobic feeling, so the viewer feels as though they could be part of the piece.
