Depression Zine: An Artistic Response to my Mental Health

Fuck Sertraline and Your Side Effects multimedia Zine made from sertraline instructions (September 2024)

For a long time I have suffered with anxiety and depressive thoughts and have struggled to accept that part of myself. I decided to turn this frustration towards my work and made a zine out of the instructions for my anti depressants. I tried to achieve a collage feel to the piece, using a mixture of found pieces, such as a label from a cigarette packet and a poem written for me by my mother, as well as noting my own feelings on my mental health. The piece aims to capture my frustration as well as my reluctant acceptance of the way that my brain works.
